Description
Sortase was the first member of a novel family of cell surface, membrane anchored transpeptidases identified from Staphylcoccus aureus. It is involved in the processing, presentation and attachment of key cell surface proteins such as protein A to the peptidoglycan of the bacterial cell wall. Inhibition of SrtA has resulted in reduced adhesive properties of this pathogen and represents a target for the development of novel anti-bacterials..
